Introducing Charlotte Rae Schenker
Have things seemed quiet over here? That’s probably because my wife and I welcomed our first daughter, Charlotte (or “Charlee”), into the world on Christmas Eve a few weeks ago! She doesn’t do a whole lot just yet, but she has her mom’s good looks and eats like her dad, so I think we’re onto something here.
Caity labored for about 18 hours through a ton of various complications, but delivered her in just 25 minutes, and her recovery is going so much better in the last week or so. She had also asked that when the great grandparents and our parents, all first-time grandparents, meet her for the first time, to have my camera at the ready to capture their reactions, and boy am I glad that I did. Here’s a bit of our story from the hospital through today, and I’m sure there will be plenty more to come.
Both Caity and the baby needed to be closely monitored through the laboring process to ensure that both of them were well-off.
Charlee was born on Christmas Eve around dinner time, and we were released two days later.
For real, though — my wife is a hero. She had two IV tubes in each arm for almost two full days.
Still in the stirrups, this was the first moment that Caity saw our daughter (and that’s a happy cry)!
Needless to say that her lungs were working!
